Overview
What Is Urinary Incontinence?
Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine caused by problems with bladder control, urinary sphincter function, pelvic floor muscles or the nervous system.
It can affect both men and women and may range from occasional leakage during coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercise to sudden urgency, frequent urination, night-time leakage or continuous dribbling. In men, it may occur after prostate surgery, sphincter weakness or neurological problems, while in women it is commonly associated with childbirth, pelvic floor weakness, menopause, prolapse or overactive bladder.
Urinary incontinence can affect daily activities, sleep, confidence and overall quality of life. The type and severity of leakage can vary significantly from one patient to another.
Important: Urinary incontinence is not simply a normal part of ageing. Proper evaluation helps identify the exact cause and allows treatment to be planned according to the individual condition.
Causes
Causes of Urinary Incontinence in Men
Pelvic Floor Weakness
Weak pelvic muscles can reduce bladder and urethral control.

Neurological conditions may interfere with normal bladder control.
Urinary Tract Infection
UTIs can temporarily cause urgency, frequency and leakage.
Age-Related Changes
Bladder and sphincter function may weaken with age.
Previous Surgery
Pelvic, bladder or urinary surgery can sometimes affect continence.
